Piano Connections, Inc. was founded as a not for profit organization in the spring of 2001. The mission of Piano Connections is to promote solo piano music within communities. One of the primary goals of this organization is to educate children and adults about piano music, demonstrating how the piano can enrich their daily lives.
During 2001, Piano Connections appointed internationally acclaimed pianist Greg McCallum as Artistic Director. Under the musical leadership of McCallum, Piano Connections launched its unique program North Carolina Piano-To-Go: 88 Keys Across 100 Counties. This project will reach out to every county in the state of North Carolina and celebrate the role of the piano in our society and educate people of all ages about the piano’s rich history and repertoire.
Piano Connections also sponsored a celebration of the 300th anniversary of the piano’s invention with a program entitled “Bach to Boogie” held at East Chapel Hill High School. Joining with the Chapel Hill Museum, Piano Connections sponsored a program of sacred piano music called “Black and White in Harmony,” which was featured during an exhibit on the desegregation of a local high school. As 2001 turned to a new year, Piano Connections used the power of the piano in a benefit concert for world peace on New Year’s Eve, which aided hunger relief in Afghanistan.
Piano Connections looks forward to continuing to reach into communities with our residencies while providing a variety of innovative concerts and programs to celebrate the piano and the people whose lives it touches.
